BAND CAMP 2006

What is Camp?

Band Camp is the set of rehearsals before school stars to prepare us for the upcoming football/marching band seasons. The objectives of band camp are as follows: 1. To learn how to march with and without a band instrument. 2. To learn how to march while playing an instrument and moving to form pictures. 3. to continue learning how to play instruments with a characteristic tone. 4. To learn the importance of discipline in a large group setting. 5. To learn how to cooperate with peers for long periods of time. Overall band camp should be a long but rewarding experience for all of the students and staff involved. We work very hard day to day but always are focusing on a common goal....music education. The students will find that camp is unlike anything they have ever been involved in but they will benefit and be rewarded for their hard work for the entire year to come.

What Do I Need For Full Camp?

Water - you are outside and working hard...you need this stuff!

Eat Breakfast - This is always a major issue because students who do not eat, normally get sick at camp. Eat anything that is non-dairy.

Sunscreen, hat and sunglasses.

Lunch and Dinner - Sandwiches and fruits/vegetables are encouraged. You will be at the school all day, some days dinner may be provided depending on what we can work out.

Old Tennis Shoes - No sandals, flip-flops or open-toe shoes, we will be marching around and tennis shoes hold up better than anything else.

Instrument - This goes without saying - but we need to.

Philosophy of Band Camp "Success cones to those who work for it!" This is the philosophy of the entire Porter Ridet Band Program. All students are requried to be at all camps. Attendance is mandatory and any individual problems should have been worked out before the dates of camp with both directors. Band Camp is where 90% of the work for the marching season is accomplished. It is very intensive, but as we work toward a common goal, it becomes enjoyable and students are rewarded for theri efforts. It is in this way we are most sucessful.
